Dear Students, Staff, and Faculty,

We are restarting our regular communications for the fall semester. This message will be brief, and it is intended to alert you to keep an eye out for our updates.

What should I do if I test positive for COVID-19?

Students who test positive for COVID-19 should contact the Student Health and Wellness Center at 216-397-4349. By alerting us to your positive test, we can assist with contact tracing and reach out to students to help monitor their health.

What should I do if I feel symptoms of COVID-19?

COVID-19 symptoms are varied, but they tend to include fever, difficulty breathing, cough, fatigue, muscle aches, and loss of smell and taste. Students who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should contact their physician in order to be tested. If students live close to campus, the Student Health and Wellness Center (216-397-4349) can draw a sample for COVID-19 testing. Students must call before coming to the Student Health and Wellness Center if they have symptoms of COVID-19. Students should not come to campus and should limit interaction with others while they are not feeling well and while they are awaiting test results.

I have COVID-19 and am struggling to stay on track in my courses. What should I do?

Students should communicate with their professors and discuss the situation to determine the appropriate path forward. They may also want to contact Dr. Carlo DeMarchi (216-397-1521 or cdemarchi@jcu.edu) in the Academic Success Center; he can contact all of your professors with a single email.

*Please note that students who are ill with anything should follow these guidelines.

Get Engaged with the JCU Community

1. Campus Ministry (https://jcu.edu/student-life/campus-ministry)

By the end of this week, CM will have many different virtual offerings, including podcasts, small group discussions, a book club, a variety of spiritual group programs, retreats, musical offerings, fine arts, and one-on-one spiritual direction.

2. Center for Service and Social Action (https://jcu.edu/academics/service-learning)

CSSA is making many virtual service activities available, and Cleveland desperately needs our students to continue their commitment to improving our local community.

Access resources:

1. Technology (https://jcu.edu/its)

ITS is a critical resource for students. If you are having issues with technology, wireless access, etc., and need some advice, the ITS Helpdesk needs to be at the top of your contact list via email (servicedesk@jcu.edu) or phone (216-397-3005).

2. Mental Health

The Counseling Center has free, informal, confidential consultations. Drop-in times are:

Mondays, 3:00-4:00 p.m.

Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m.-12 noon

Wednesdays, 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Since it is first-come, first-serve, you may have to wait in the virtual waiting room. Go to (jcu.edu/counselingcenter), and click on the “Let’s Talk” tab to find links for access to the Zoom room.

Stay safe,

Dr. Mike Martin
